What is the Financial Freedom Project?

The Financial Freedom Project is a joint collaboration between the City of Birmingham, IMC Financial Consulting and Goalsetter. It offers a 4-pronged solution to surround students, parents, teachers and staff in the Birmingham community with critical and life-changing financial knowledge and skills.

The goal of the Financial Freedom Project is to liberate families from financial stress and positively impact their financial futures.

Mayor Randall L. Woodfin

"We have to put more resources, commitment, time, and a sense of urgency into supporting our youth."

Superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan

"Our job is not just to prepare students for college and careers - it is to prepare students for life. And that's what the Birmingham Financial Freedom Project is doing."

Partnership Objectives: Our 4-pronged Solution for Financial Wellness

1. Financial Education At School

The Financial Freedom Project provides in-person and digital curriculum enabling students to engage in culturally responsive lessons covering financial literacy topics that meet national standards and learning targets.

Students learn new financial concepts, discuss relevant life situations, engage with interactive examples, and gain a foundational understanding of building wealth.

2. Practical Application at Home

From Kindergarten to College, students engage with the Goalsetter App to save, invest and spend smartly while improving their personal finance knowledge with game-based learning.

Students 'Learn Before they Burn' with in-app quizzes that they must complete to unlock their cash!

3. Public & Private Partnerships

The Goalsetter Foundation partners with some of the most prominent corporations in the country, including Nike, Delta, Citizen's Bank, Twitter, and UBS, to donate stock into student Goalsetter accounts.

Through these partnerships, we are jointly creating early investors and lifelong learners.

4. Family and Teacher Engagement

Through community engagement, we bring parents, students, and teachers together for a holistic solution.

Teachers and parents will be introduced to personal finance courses and coaching designed to improve their own financial literacy and real-life habits. We help parents and educators to become smart savers, spenders and investors too.

Finally. Engaging Financial Education for Everyone.
